Maserati GranTurismo

Model Overview

The Maserati GranTurismo is the flagship two-door, four-seater luxury grand tourer from Italian marque Maserati, serving as the quintessential embodiment of the brand’s "Grand Tour" philosophy. Debuting globally in 2007, the GranTurismo model line stands as a contemporary interpretation of classic Italian GT heritage, seamlessly fusing elegance with long-distance touring performance. The second-generation GranTurismo was first revealed in 2022. On 18 June 2026, Maserati officially unveiled the 2026 GranTurismo facelift, spanning both internal combustion engine (ICE) and all-electric "Folgore" variants. The updated range is offered in three trims: the standard variant, the performance-oriented Trofeo, and the fully electric Folgore. Order books are now open in Italy, with deliveries slated to commence in September 2026; the model is expected to arrive at domestic showrooms across China in the second half of 2026.

Design Language

Visually, the 2026 GranTurismo marks one of Maserati’s most cohesive design updates in recent years—adopting the aggressive "Shark Nose" front fascia derived from the track-honed MCXtrema and MC20, matched with a revised front bumper featuring wider air intakes to accentuate its broad stance. Distinct front-end styling cues set the petrol and electric versions apart. Reshaped air inlets, a new front splitter, and a revised rear diffuser work in tandem to generate increased downforce at high speeds. The headlight and tail lamp clusters retain their original silhouettes, though the rear lights feature a lighter, less aggressive smoked finish. Refreshed alloy wheel designs widen the track by 10 mm; seven new exterior paint options have been added, including Matte Green Jupiter and Blu Denim.

Inside, the cabin receives subtle yet meaningful refinements. The multi-function steering wheel now adopts a distinctive octagonal profile; similarly, the signature digital clock perched atop the dashboard gets an octagonal housing. The previous push-button drive mode selector has made way for a more tactile, prominent toggle switch to allow effortless operation without taking one's eyes off the road. Fresh interior colourways have also been introduced, including Bordeaux Red leather paired with nude Alcantara.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 GranTurismo receives substantial powertrain enhancements. The petrol range is powered exclusively by Maserati’s renowned 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, featuring F1-derived pre-chamber combustion technology that delivers an impressive specific output of 197 CV/L.

The standard variant puts out 490 hp and 600 Nm of peak torque, paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system equipped with an automated front-axle disconnect clutch. The benchmark 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 3.9 seconds, on to a top speed of 302 km/h.

The Trofeo variant sees its power uprated from the pre-facelift's 550 hp to a potent 590 hp, alongside 650 Nm of torque. It comes standard with an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential (e-LSD) and an active sports exhaust system. It despatches the 0-100 km/h dash in 3.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 320 km/h.

The Folgore EV variant retains its tri-motor setup (one motor up front, two at the rear), generating a massive combined output of 761 hp and 1,350 Nm. The century sprint takes 2.8 seconds (up marginally from 2.7 seconds previously), with top speed rated at 325 km/h. Armed with a 92.5 kWh battery pack, the Folgore benefits from an optimised energy management system and AWD Disconnect function, boosting its WLTP cruising range from 455 km to 540 km.

Chassis and Handling Dynamics

Under the skin, the 2026 GranTurismo comes standard with adaptive, height-adjustable air suspension. A new "Country" drive mode raises ground clearance by 20 mm at speeds of up to 120 km/h. The redesigned Trident alloy wheels increase overall track width by 10 mm, directly sharpening turn-in, steering precision, and high-speed road manners. The Folgore variant gains a dedicated Max Range mode for maximum efficiency, whilst the Performance Optimizer within Corsa track mode harnesses tri-motor torque vectoring to extract an extra 10% of temporary overboost power.

Cockpit and In-Car Tech

The GranTurismo retains its classic 2+2 grand touring seating layout. The digital cockpit centres around a triple-screen arrangement—a 12.2-inch fully digital instrument binnacle, a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a lower 8.8-inch display dedicated to auxiliary and climate controls, all running on refreshed graphic user interfaces. It runs on the Maserati Connect operating system, with audiophile-grade premium sound systems available as an option. Cabin amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and bespoke upholstery appointments throughout.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the active and passive safety front, the 2026 GranTurismo lineup now features Driver Attention Assist across all trims. The entry-level and Trofeo variants also gain Park Assist as standard (a feature previously exclusive to the Folgore). The comprehensive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Active Blind Spot Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and lane-centring functions.

Market Positioning and Verdict

The GranTurismo maintains an exclusive, distinguished foothold in the global luxury GT sphere. With the 2026 facelift bringing a unified "Shark Nose" corporate aesthetic, a performance bump to 590 hp on the Trofeo, and an extended 540 km range for the Folgore EV, the model has undergone a comprehensive evolutionary upgrade across the board.

Price-wise, the 2026 GranTurismo ICE kicks off from RM163,800 in Italy, climbing to RM199,900 for the Trofeo, whilst the electric Folgore starts at RM163,640. In the United States, base pricing starts at approximately RM180,450 for the entry model and RM220,480 for the Trofeo. Over in China, dealers are offering heavy discounts to clear stock, with Wuhan showroom rebates reaching RM80,000 to bring the entry price down to RM1,380,000, whilst Hangzhou sees price slashes of up to RM102,000, bringing starting prices down to RM1,358,000.

Even so, the Trident brand finds itself facing headwinds—its global sales tally fell to 7,900 units in 2025, representing a steep 30% drop year-on-year to hit its lowest volumes since 2012. Against this backdrop, the GranTurismo, spearheading Maserati's dual-track "ICE + EV" strategy, bears the crucial mantle of revitalising brand prestige in the ultra-competitive luxury grand tourer segment.
